Never Comes Too Soon

from New England Music (1996) by Thunderegg

lyrics

Is it the lights gone out, or is it just the apocalypse? Is it the sun gone down, or is it just a solar eclipse? Did you walk out of my door, or did you walk out of my life? You won’t be out of my mind just because you’re out of my sight.

The sun hides behind the moon, but it still can burn the eyes. Together just a moment, then they drift back to their skies. Run from the light, hide in the shadows that it makes. And as it drifts off to the west, my body heat it takes, and takes, and takes.

She applies the leeches and he hopes for the cure. The treatment done, it’s much too late to know if it worked for sure. And as his eyelids flutter shut, he sees her leave the room. He wonders if he’ll never see her again if never comes too soon.
